Create a Full Website Backup in cPanel

It's essential to make your LOCAL backups of your important data periodically. This means creating a backup of your account via cPanel and downloading/saving it to your computer locally. You MUST make a backup and download it locally. Otherwise, the backups you just made are useless if the server fails. Additionally, our server cleanup script (shared accounts only) automatically removes cPanel backups older than 30 days. Per our AUP, the server storage space cannot be used for file storage/mass storage of backups, archives, videos, and large media.

Please consider the following guidelines when making a Full cPanel Backup.

  • Your account must have at least 50% free disk space. Otherwise, the Backup may fail. If it's above 50%, you can contact support, and we can make a backup.
  • If you have a Pro account or use more than 20GB of disk space, please get in touch with support, and we can make a backup for you. Unfortunately, long-running backup processes may be killed automatically, resulting in an incomplete backup.
  • Once you create & download your Backup, you must remove it from your account. Otherwise, the file will be deleted automatically.
  • Creating cPanel backups uses lots of server CPU and Disk I/O. If you make full backups too frequently (more than once or twice a month), your account may be flagged for abuse, and you will lose the option to make business manually.

Please follow along as we show you how to make a full cPanel backup of your Linux hosting account quickly and easily.

1) log in to your cPanel account. The login URL and username/password are in your account welcome email.
2) Once logged in, click on the Backup option under the Files sub-heading of your cPanel.
3) Click Download a Full Website Backup.
4) Select Backup Destination - Home Directory, enter your email address, and click Generate.
5) Once the Backup is completed, you will receive an email notification. Return to the Backup page, and you will see the link to download the newly created Backup. Click the link to download the Backup to your local computer.
6) When the backup is saved locally, return to your cPanel and click on File Manager. You can delete the Backup in your File Manager under the user root directory (outside the public_html).

If you have any issues making a backup or need further support, please don't hesitate to contact support for assistance.
