Manage root's SSH Keys

On your Linux VPS (Virtual Private Server) password authentication is disabled by default for security reasons. It's preferred that you do not use password authentication on your Linux VM when logging in as root. Instead we recommend that you setup a public/private key pair via WHM using the SSH Key manager under the Security Center.

First, you must generate your keys using the following command in your SSH client.
ssh-keygen -t dsa

Otherwise you can use the Generate a new key wizard in WHM.

Once you have your keys, you can login to your WHM and click on Manage root's SSH Keys under the Security section of your WHM. Click on Import and enter your passphrase and copy/paste in your public key.

Finally, in your SSH client you should set it up so that it's using pub key authentication and that everything is connecting successfully.

If you encounter any issues, please contact us and we'll be glad to assist in getting this setup and working.
