FAQ - Domain Transfers (OVERVIEW)

Here is a list of common questions we receive regarding domain transfers. As we receive questions, we'll keep this article updated and outline below.

Remember: If you have registered or transferred your domain within the last 60 days you will need to wait until 60 days has past from the initial date of registration or previous transfer to be able to transfer your domain elsewhere. These are policies set by ICANN, the governing body behind all domain registrations and transfers.

Q: If I bought my domain through another hosting company or registrar, can I switch it to you?

A: Yes. As per ICANN policies, registered domain name holders must be able to transfer their domains between registrars, however you must wait 60 days after the initial registration or any previous transfers to start another transfer.

Q: How do I transfer my domain to PeoplesHost?
A: We’ve outlined the process here in another KB article -- https://my.peopleshost.com/knowledgebase/91/Transferring-a-domain-to-PeoplesHost.html

Q: My registrar is asking for a code, where do I get this?
A: You can obtain the EPP code or sometimes called AUTH or Transfer code from your current hosting company or registrar. If you have any issues getting the code, please let us know and we can certainly help.

Q: I don’t know who my registrar or hosting company is, can you help?
A: Yes, of course. Please contact us and we can do some digging to determine who is hosting your account, but who also registered the domain on your behalf.

Q: Is there an additional fee for transferring a domain?
A: Yes, however we don’t just collect the fee and give you nothing in return. Upon successful transfer of the domain, we renew the domain for an additional year on TOP of its current registration period. That means if you just renewed the domain and decided to transfer it to us, you won’t have to renew it again for two years.

Q: My transfer request was denied; how do I find out why?
A: The email our automated system sends will let you know why the transfer failed. Most commonly, domain transfers fail due to failed transfer approval, the domain's lock status hasn't been disabled, or domain privacy is still on the domain. If you have any questions about the reasoning just let us know and we’ll help.

Q: My domain just expired, can I still transfer it over to PeoplesHost?
A: Yes, assuming the current registrar hasn’t started the deletion process. If so, you’ll need to restore the domain with your current registrar before transferring it over to PeoplesHost. Restoring your domain at your current registrar may cost a fee. These fees vary by web hosts and registars. We cannot help you lower a restore fee that another web host or registrar charges.

If you have any question that aren't covered in our FAQ, please don't hesitate to reach out by submitting a ticket or contacting support and we'll be happy to answer your domain transfer questions.
