Microsoft introduced a new email and newsgroup client in the Windows 10 release. Microsoft has official documentation on how to set up email in Mail for Windows 10, however, to add an email account to your Mail client you can also follow the instructions below.
To get started you'll want to open Mail by pressing the Windows key on your keyboard and searching for Mail or clicking the Windows icon in the lower left corner of your computer's screen.
Once you've opened the Mail client you'll want to click the Settings icon located in the lower left corner of your screen.
When you click the Settings icon, new Settings options will appear on the right side of the window pane. Click the link for Manage Accounts. Then click + Add account.
A modular pop up will appear on your screen prompting you to Choose an account. Scroll to the bottom of the window and select Advanced setup.
In the Advanced setup window you'll want to choose the option for Internet email.
On the next screen, you'll be asked to fill out the information for your Internet email account. This is where you'll enter the following information:
- Email address
- User name
- Password
- Account name
- Incoming email server
- Account type (IMAP4 RECOMMENDED)
- Outgoing (SMTP) email server
Please Note: Your Incoming Email Server and Outgoing (SMTP) Email Server may be different from the screenshots below. Please check your Welcome email for your server/hostname information. If you want to send/receive email securely use your server's hostname and NOT mail.yourdomain.com. You can use mail.yourdomain.com to send/receive secure email only if your domain name has an SSL Certificate.
Also, keep the boxes selected for the four options at the bottom and click the Sign in button.
- Outgoing server requires authentication
- Use the same user name and password for sending email
- Require SSL for incoming email
- Require SSL for outgoing email
Mail will create your account and display a success message when the account has been added to the Mail client. Click the Done button and you can begin using your email account on Mail in Windows 10!
