If you are considering a migration to PeoplesHost we would ask that you first contact our support to speak with a migration specialists. Here are a few of the most frequently asked questions regarding the site migration/transfer process:

How long does a migration last?
A website migration/transfer can last anywhere from 1 hour to 12+ hours. There are many variables, such as how much data needs to be transferred, that affect the speed of which a migration can be completed. Our team will review your existing account before commencement of the migration to let you know a rough estimate for how long we expect the migration to take and transfer all of your data onto your server at PeoplesHost.

PeoplesHost cannot make any guarantees concerning the time, availability or possibility for the account to be transferred to its servers.

Will my emails and email accounts migrate over?
Yes and no. If you are moving from a cPanel (Linux) or WebsitePanel (Windows) web hosting provider we should and most likely will be able to migrate everything as it is on your other web host's environment. If you are migrating from a non-cPanel web host we suggest that you backup your emails locally. We will need to re-create your email accounts on the new server at PeoplesHost.

Is there any downtime?
There is no downtime during this process. There is a common misconception about downtime vs. DNS propagation. Once the nameservers are updated on your domain you will need to wait for the new PeoplesHost nameservers to fully propagate across the web. Do you test my website after you have completed the migration?
Yes. Our migration specialists will test your site prior to updating your domain's nameservers. We ensure that your website is running smoothly and displaying properly on the new environment. It is common to run into minor issues when you move your website onto a new environment with another host. Often times we see customers migrate with issues already present on their account. Our team will do our best to address and resolve the issues your other host could not.

When can I cancel my other hosting account?
We suggest that you wait at least a week (7 days) before cancelling your other hosting account with your previous web hosting provider. This will ensure that we still have access to your website's files and database(s) from the original source should any issues arise. On rare occasions, we do see corrupt databases or incomplete backup files when migrating customers from another web host.

NOTE: Should you wish to transfer your domain to PeoplesHost, we highly recommend that you DO NOT initiate a domain transfer until we have successfully migrated your website's content and database(s). Once a domain transfer has been initiated it can take up to 5-7 business days to successfully transfer over from your previous web host provider or domain registrar. During this time we cannot update information on the domain, which includes the domain's nameservers.

Ideally, we would ask that you initiate a domain transfer after we have completed the migration and updated the nameservers on your domain.
